Our Story
Rampart Rentals has been part of life in Norman Wells since 1991, when it first opened its doors, under Mary Buist as Mary’s Store. What started as a small, independent shop has grown into the community’s main grocery store, proudly serving families, businesses, and visitors across the Sahtu.

Josh began working part-time in the summer of 2007
In 2017 ownership was changed to Josh and his brothers.

The name “Rampart” comes from the Mackenzie River’s famous ramparts near Fort Good Hope, a reminder of the strong currents, resilience, and connections that define life in the North.
Over the years, we have adapted to meet our community’s needs. From video rentals in the early days to today’s full grocery and everyday service, we’ve kept pace with changing times while staying true to our roots as a local, community focused business.

We are proud to be a registered Nutrition North Canada retailer, helping make fresh, healthy food more affordable in our region. Our central location at Town Square makes it easy to stop in, whether you’re stocking up for the week, grabbing supplies for a camp trip, or just picking up essential goods.

Today, under the leadership of Joshua Earls, Rampart Rentals continues to focus on what matters most: reliable service, fair prices, and a strong commitment to our community. For more than 30 years, we have been here for Norman Wells and we look forward to serving the Sahtu for many more.
